Bilingual KODA Toddlers Find Loophole
Posted by ShelJun 21
This is a loose translation of my ASL vlog contents.
Greetings everyone!
This is a fun vlog about my KODA twins who are now 5 1/2 years old. This event occurred when they were approximately 1 1/2 to 2 yrs old while my mother-in-law was babysitting them at her home so I could get some errands done.
My MIL put the boys down for their afternoon nap together in one bed. A few minutes later, she heard them chatting. She went into the bedroom and admonished them to not talk as they were supposed to be sleeping. She left the room. A few moments later, things were quiet. She was impressed that the little ones actually complied with her. She decided to check in on them and found them signing to each other in ASL!
Well… the boys WERE complying with the letter of her command: Don’t TALK! Talk about loopholes!

Thanks. Goes to show how bilingualism can promote such thinking and strategizing. Of course in this situation, it’s a twin thing… two would do what only one couldn’t or wouldn’t think to do!

Smart! Smart! Their IQ has become more stellar through sign language!

**chuckling** My son and I watched your vlog together and we laughed together! Thanks! It reminded me of my children (18 mos. apart) when they were little. Although they are Deaf and don’t use voices, they know not to jump or run around in the room so they just sat on the bed signing like a storm. Not feeling banging in the house would fool you that they were sleeping.
Your kids are surely smart to figure out to get around it!

Ha! They know how to follow the letter of the law if not its spirit! Watch out as they get older! You may have future lawyers or politicians on your hands!

Yes, Barb, I know what you mean about bedtime sneakiness. Kids are like that.
