DBC, THANKS!

This vlog is an expression of thanks to everyone involved in the DBC Milwaukee convention: Jill and John Lestina, Patti Durr, other volunteers for the children’s program; Jack Barr of WAD: DBC Core members-both former and current; the 700 participants.
Upon viewing my vlog, I realized I had forgotten to thank the presenters who laboured in preparation to present excellent topics to all of us. The following presenters are: Dr. Barbara Kannapell, Dr. MJ Bienvenu, Bobbie Beth Scoggins, Dr. Genie Gertz, Dr. Patrick Boudreault (a fellow Canadian!), and Dr. Marlon Kuntze. MANY THANKS!!
My next vlog will discuss the presented topics which placed a heavy emphasis on bilingualism (ASL and English)
Comments are welcome. Destructive criticism as well as personal attacks will not be published. Thank you for visiting!

Ah, it’s so good to see your name sign!
Now I know what to sign for you my americanized canadian fly lolol
Can’t wait to see what you have to present in your series–seems like you will add on a lot of information on what went on inside DBC that might not have been brought to the attention of those who did not go ther (myself included!)
Thank you for doing your vlogs!

Hi Shel, it’s good to see your face along with your name. Thanks for this pleasant vlog. Indeed, a lot of people invested their time and energy to this conference and for that alone, deserved a lot of gratitude and handwaves. It’s too bad that several prefer not to see it that way. Look forward to your experiences and observations that DeafChip and Jack also shared.

Thank you for your kind comments.
I agree that the people deserved recognition for their contributions to a successful conference.

Shel,
Amen! I 100% agree with you. These people deserve to be recognized for their commitment, sacrifice, and determination to make this whole DBC conference a reality! I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for them!

Hi Shel,
Nice to see your face! I was thinking of a different Canadian woman — blond like you but shorter hair and a bit older, I think — know who I mean?
Anyway, thank you for doing this as well — the DBC folks do deserve recognition for their hard work — I’m sure it’s been hard on them to have done all that work and then come home to nothing but bashing and trashing of their reps, motives and work.

What hit me hard, Shelley, was when you vociferated that DBC did make it happen! 700+ attendées. The number was a lot! I wish I had attended the DBC, for no one had videoed the full presentations of six presenters. I saw Scoggins for about 20 seconds and Bienvenu for about 30 seconds respectively. I hope that Ella will consider a Deafhood conference based in Washington, D.C. in the not-too distant future.
Merci bcp.!

*ist, I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Don G., there’s a lot of blond Canadian women of that description around. You would have to narrow that description somewhat
Yes, it has been a difficult couple of weeks. To come home with excitement and inspiration only to encounter such vitriol has been agonizing. At least, now I see a new beginning after all the furor. Remember that phoenix analogy? I like your analogy better, though!

Shel ~
I’m sitting here with a big smile on my face.
Yes, we were fortunate to have wonderful people on the conference planning committee. We were also fortunate to have been surrounded by 700+ participants who shared the same passion for our Deaf children.
Thanks for doing this positive vlog about your experience at the DBC conference. ILY!

Shel, I remember you!
Yes, I am really glad that so many Deaf people were inspired and empowered from the DBC conference. A lot of hard work from the DBC leaders, core members and members, and volunteers helped made it a big success. I am hopeful the next year conference will be even bigger.

Shel,
AHHHH! Wonderful vlog– the sense of affirmation and a “job well done”- thanks!!!!! I agree, the most important– the 700 who came and made DBC’s first conference a huge success.
I’m so glad I got to meet you in Rochester and your family in Milwaukee! You definitely are a hero in the Deaf community.
Hope to see you at the Canada Association of the Deaf’s national conference in Calgary next week??? I’m so excited to present there with Ella, Genie, and Paddy (in video form).

I’m glad we got to meet you, too.
Unfortunately, I’m unable to attend the conference in Calgary.
I am sure my compatriots will enjoy your presentation! Enjoy our Canadian hospitality while you folks are there!
